Finding the perfect wedding location can be an exciting process. The entire world is at your fingertips. You could choose a destination wedding in Nepal, or a beachside wedding in Mexico. If you prefer cities, New York, Chicago and Arizona have a multitude of sites that offer views and atmosphere. Your wedding location will be part of the pictures. In fact, the location may play as large a part in how the pictures are taken as who is in them.

Locations come in all shapes and sizes. Just like your dress and your invitations, your wedding location is a reflection of who you and your future husband are. It may reflect your current lifestyle, of the lifestyle you dream of. You may want to return to a setting that reminds you of your childhood when you used to dream about getting married. One way to sort through the amount of locations you can choose from is with an idea board.

An idea board in essence is a collage of ideas pulled from the Internet, magazines, pictures and more. It doesn’t matter if it’s wedding related or not. The images could be of fine china or a movie ad. If there’s something about a color or image that appeals to you, cut it out, print it out and put it up on your idea board. There doesn’t have to be any sense or order in the way you put the images on.

When you return to your board, look at it from a couple of different perspectives. Was there a color that seems to be repeated throughout? The primary colors you find could be chosen for floral bouquets, for lighting, for tablecloths. After you’ve made a decision on a color scheme that suits you, its time to move on to bigger questions.

After you’ve settled on a color palette to work from, now is the time to narrow down the options for the ideal wedding location. Take a look at your board. Did you cut out images of hotels or villas fit for a king and queen? If you don’t have any buildings, but have architectural details like columns and arches, you may want to consider a European Villa. You don’t need to fly to Europe for one of these. There are many places in the US that have a European flair.

If instead, your idea board had no buildings, no architecture, but was instead filled with images of alpine lakes or seaside colors, you may prefer an outdoor wedding. Imagine how you would feel as a horse drawn carriage delivers you to your future husband.

While images are said to speak a thousand words, finding the right words to capture how you feel about your wedding is just as important. If there’s a word you want to use, or if there’s a feeling you want to convey of formality, or the depths of love, do an Internet search – “Love does not consist of gazing at each other, but in looking together in the same direction. ~Antoine de Saint-Exupery.”

With so many wedding locations to choose from, your idea board is your tool to help find the one that best represents you and your groom. The location should reflect both of your personalities. Your wedding location will help set the stage for your new life.
